Why does GHS /KM eliminate deflection and GHS with GM does not?  I also find a
large difference in weight between the two methods, why?


Answer:

GHS /KM forces flat water and eliminates the deflection.  The reason for this
is to prevent people from making errors when they derive GM from KM (they
sometimes forget to take trim into account).
