CAD/CAM
GHS is one of the computing tools used in the Computer-Aided
Design and Manufacturing process for ships and boats of all
types. It accepts data from drawing and solid-modeling software
including all major drawing programs and most of the ship hull
development software programs. GHS produces data necessary for
the evaluation of the cargo capacity, longitudinal
strength (shear and bending) and stability performance of ship
designs.
Very often complete 3-D models of a ship and its internal
subdivisions and tankage are generated within GHS by the
geometrical modeling tools supplied in the GHS system. The level
of detail is suitable for trim and stability analysis, not
construction drawings. But if this is done in a preliminary
design activity, the geometrical information can later be
exported for use with CAD drawing programs as the basis for
detailed design.
