Model-building tools
In order to perform hydrostatic calculations, it is necessary to
create a geometrical model of the ship hull in question. If tank
loads and/or damage are to be considered, the appropriate
internal spaces must be modeled as well.
The geometrical models consist of one or more series of cross-
sectional curves. GHS comes with powerful model-building tools
which facilitate a variety of means of entering the data which
define these curves:
- Section Editor is a graphical CAD-like tool for creating or
modifying sectional curves. It provides for direct entry of
offsets (in several unit formats) an well as easy keyboard
drawing. It also interfaces to digitizers through ADI drivers.
This tool is most often used to create hull models, though it may
be applied to other parts of the model, such as tanks, as sell.
- Part Maker is a powerful, yet easily-used, command-oriented
tool for creating any part of the model. It is especially suited
to creating external appendages and internal tanks. It
incorporates a graphical display facility which allows every
aspect of the geometrical model to be examined graphically on the
screen and printer.
- Model Converter imports geometrical data from non-GHS formats,
including DXF. It also exports from the GHS format to DXF and
other formats.
- Hull Maker is an alternative tool for generating barge hulls. Unlike Section Editor and Part Maker, it creates an entire hull model from a parametric specification.
