DB GetGF vs DB Ships
| In the Data Base User Information under Dialogs, GetGF and Ships look very similar. |
To understand the difference, first note that the Data Base does not require that the
Geometry File be stored in it before storing things like weights or using any of its
many commands and dialogs. The data base stores everything under the geometry file name,
but storing the geometry file itself is optional.
If your DB GetGF command omits specifying any particular Geometry File, you get a list of all Ships for which Geometry Files have been stored: |
| On the other hand, DB Ships lists all of the vessels for which data has been stored. |
Note that DB Ships provides a means of deleting information in this dialog, whereas
DB GetGF in its dialog does not. Of course if there is a geometry file in the data base it will
be deleted as well, but it does not touch the geometry information that is in memory during the GHS session.
To help you avoid accidentally deleting information, DB Ships asks to make sure of your intention. |
