SPONSON (review)

SPONSON is a Part Maker statement available within the CREATE command. It is unique because the resulting shape is based on an existing hull shape and a series of width@length value parameters.

Here is a cross-section of our classic Fishing Vessel hull.

One possible remedy for insufficient stability is to make the hull wider with the addition of sponsons. It takes only a few lines in a run file to add a sponson component to the hull.

Here is an example:
 READ FV.GF
 ENTER PM
 CREATE HULL\SPONSON.C
  SPONSON = .1@21.175F, 2@15.4F, 2@26.95A, .1@32.725A
  SPACING 3
 /
 WRITE FV-SPON.GF
 QUIT PM

For the final design there will be some adjustments, of course, but being able to quickly evaluate the stability impact of various sponson widths might be a time saver.
