Custom plots for design comparisons

GHS can calculate and present results in many forms. Custom tables and plots give you even more options, beyond what the numerous command parameters offer. We feel that this gives you, the user, the power to produce the results you want and to present them as you see fit.

Take the plot below, for example, which shows the righting arm curves for 5 barges of varying widths.

The data label for each curve indicates the width of each barge and its deck immersion (DI) angle. Can you see that the first downward inflection point of each curve corresponds to the deck immersion angle? Which barges are self-righting?

Did you know you could compare vessel design characteristics like this with GHS? Hopefully, you answered "Yes" because you saw the recent Command of the Week showing the details of custom plotting. Using standard GHS RAH commands, each righting arm curve would appear on a separate page. The custom plot option makes the comparison of different geometry files much easier, something that might be useful to someone performing an early-stage ship design.
