TC (Tank Characteristics)

To document your meticulously constructed geometry file in a report, DISPLAY PRINT (see COW091) is a great asset. In addition to a detailed report of the ship's hullform, it also gives the following information for tanks:
  • longitudinal extents and gross volume,
  • drawings of the stations in isometric and body views, and
  • coordinates of the points which comprise each station.

  • TANK CHARACTERISTICS (TC command) is the perfect companion to DISPLAY PRINT. It is similar to the tabular forms of GHS and HS. TC shows how the properties of each tank vary with load.

If you are unfamiliar with the output, the best thing to do is select a particular tank and execute a TC command without parameters. Doing so with a report open creates a table and corresponding plot. An example is presented below.

The loadlist parameter governs how the table rows are organized. By default the following list of load fractions is used: 0.05 0.1 0.2 ... 0.9 0.95 0.98 1.0. You can specify the loadlist in terms of weight, volume, reference point height, sounding or ullage. Reference point height can be a good alternative for tanks that don't have sounding tubes defined.

The other formatting options are set with various slash parameters. Some parameters turn columns on or off while others allow you to select the units for presented values. There is a parameter to skip the graph, and one to incorporate a note regarding the tank location.

The TC command is designed for the naval architect. If you are looking for similar information presented in a format that is better suited for a captain, the TS (Tank Soundings) optional module might be what you are looking for.
